Maria Sharapova exclusively shared with ‘Us Weekly’ her advice for tennis star Coco Gauff, who has parted ways with coach Brad Gilbert
Maria Sharapova has some advice for Coco Gauff, who recently fired tennis coach Brad Gilbert.
“What you need at a certain point in your career is not what you need later in your career,” the retired tennis player continued. “I was very fortunate with the teams that I had. I still remain very close to all of my coaches. They’re such big team members and they carry so much weight. A team is really important.”
Gilbert, 63, announced via X on Wednesday, September 18, that he and Gauff, 20, had parted ways after an intense summer 2024 season. “Coco, at just 20 years young, your future is incredibly bright, and I wish you nothing but continued success ahead,” Gilbert wrote. “I’m excited for the next chapter in my coaching career.”Gilbert previously coached players such as Andre Agassi, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick, and started working with Gauff in July 2023 as co-coach with Pere Riba.
