'Multiple samples' of BMDP, a synthetic designer drug also known as cathinone benzylone, have been found
Manchester Pride organisers have issued an urgent drugs warning after fake MDMA was found on sale during the festival. Testers have found 'multiple samples' of BMDP being 'mis-sold' as powder MDMA, organisers say.
The two drugs look similar, but BMDP, a synthetic designer drug also known as cathinone benzylone, can lead to prolonged insomnia and paranoia. Pride tweeted: "Back-of-house substance testing by @MANDRAKE_LAB has found multiple samples of synthetic cathinone benzylone being mis-sold as powder MDMA circulating at Manchester Pride Festival.
Drugs testing charity The Loop also issued a similar warning at the Lost Village Festival in Lincolnshire on Saturday. The charity tweeted: "A small amount of powder in circulation at @lostvillagefest 2023 has been tested by @LincolnPoliceUK as the novel cathinone Dipentylone. "Visually similar to MDMA, but can cause 24+ hours of severe insomnia, which could lead to psychosis. Seek help if unwell."
