SALT LAKE CITY — Charges were filed Wednesday against a man from Mexico who police say had thoughts of killing someone before he slit a woman's throat.Jesus Alejandro Ramirez-Padilla, 30, is charged in 3rd District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony, and obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony.
On March 18, Salt Lake police were called about 10:20 p.m. to the area of 2500 South and 500 East. Officers found a woman in an alley with blood on her sweatshirt, face and pants."It was then discovered that had several cuts across her neck," according to charging documents.Detectives found surveillance video showing Ramirez-Padilla and the woman entering the alley together. A short time later, he is seen walking out of the alley, and the woman "is observed lying on the ground under a wheelbarrow. is not moving or making any sound," the charges say.Officers began looking for the man in the video and a short time later spotted Ramirez-Padilla. When questioned, he claimed he was friends with the woman and they had done drugs together, police say."Ramirez-Padilla stated that he was curious about what it would feel like to kill someone. After the incident, Ramirez-Padilla described feeling adrenaline, scared, and sad for because she was 'young and innocent,'" according to the charges. He allegedly said he covered her body with a wheelbarrow after he believed she had died."He strangled the victim with his arm until she fell to the ground. then strangled the victim with his hands. thought that the victim wasn't dying fast enough and he needed to end her suffering, so he pulled out a razor blade and cut the victim's neck," the charges allege. " admitted he has had thoughts of killing people before, and this time he acted upon it."An immigration hold was also placed on Ramirez-Padilla, who was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
