The suspect was placed under arrest for resisting and misusing 911.
POLK COUNTY , Fla. - A man told police he was repeatedly honking his horn because it "makes him drive faster."34-year-old Douglas Morse was pulled over at around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday after a deputy on patrol heard him repeatedly honking his horn. Per the station, after being pulled over Morse told the deputy that he was honking his horn because it "makes him drive faster."
The deputy wrote Morse a citation for the violation and Morse became upset and verbally abusive, according to WTVT, which reported that the suspect allegedly went on to dial 911 at the scene of the traffic stop. The Polk County Sheriff's Office told the station that when the deputy asked Morse to hang up, he refused because he didn't agree with the citation. Per the outlet, citing police, when the deputy took control of Morse's arm to escort him out of his Jeep, he resisted.Per the station, Morse worked as a correctional officer at the Polk Correctional Institute. Staff at the Florida Department of Corrections were notified of the arrest, per WTVT.
"We expect more professional behavior from those who work in the public service industry," Sheriff Grady Judd told the station. "And dialing 911 because you are upset that you received a traffic citation is not only ridiculous, it ties up an emergency line and resources that are designated for those who have true emergencies."
