A man was struck and killed by a tow truck in the Bronx on Monday, police said.
The NYPD responded to Bronx wood Avenue and E. 230th Street at 12:39 p.m. for reports of a motor vehicle collision.Police said a 64-year-old man was walking eastbound on E. 229th Street when he was hit by a tow truck. Surveillance video showed where the driver made a left-hand turn and then made contact with the pedestrian, not giving him the right of way. People in the neighborhood told FOX 5 NY's Arthur Chi'en that the man lived there.
"The impact was so loud that I thought it was two vehicles hitting each other, and once I looked up and noticed the guy on the floor, I was just devastated to be honest," a witness said.He was taken to Jacobi hospital where he died. The tow truck driver fled the scene, police said."I heard the impact of the accident and then the driver driving away, and then I saw the guy on the floor," a witness said.
