Legendary Spanish-language rock band Maná has been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, marking a historic achievement. This recognition places them alongside 13 other esteemed nominees and highlights their enduring impact on music.

Maná, widely regarded as one of, if not the, greatest Spanish-language rock bands of all time, has achieved another historic milestone. The Mexican band was announced as a nominee for the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Wednesday, making them the first Spanish-language rock band to ever receive this honor.

This prestigious recognition places them alongside 13 other notable nominees: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Oasis, Outkast, Phish, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes. To be eligible for nomination, artists or bands must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior. Among this year's 14 nominees, eight are appearing on the ballot for the first time: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, Outkast, and Phish. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman, John Sykes, expressed his admiration for the nominees in a statement, highlighting their unique musical styles and enduring impact on generations of music lovers. The selection process involves an international voting panel composed of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. Criteria for induction encompass an artist's influence on musical culture, the impact they've had on subsequent musicians, the scope and longevity of their career, and the significance of their body of work. Maná, formed in the 1980s as “Sombrero Verde,” has consistently sold millions of albums and singles, amassing over 130 gold records and more than 250 platinum records. The band, comprising singer/songwriter Fher Olvera, drummer Alex González, lead guitarist Sergio Vallín, and bassist Juan Calleros, has achieved global recognition, performing in numerous stadiums and at renowned venues worldwide, including Madison Square Garden in New York City. They even headlined a residency at the Kia Forum in 2022, marking the first arena residency held in Los Angeles.Throughout their illustrious career, Maná has performed for prominent figures like Barack Obama, including at the White House during his presidency. They have received numerous accolades, including four Grammys and six Latin Grammys, with an additional Latin Grammy awarded in 2018 when they were honored as the Latin Grammy Person of the Year. In 2021, Billboard and Telemundo announced that Maná would receive the Icon Award at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Maná's influence extends beyond music. They are vocal advocates against violence towards women and founded the Selva Negra Foundation (Fundación Ecológica Selva Negra), a prominent voice for environmental protection in Latin America. They have also been active in supporting immigrants, outspokenly against discriminatory policies and actions. Their commitment to social justice led them to remove the remix collaboration with Nicky Jam of their classic song “De pies a cabeza” from all streaming platforms after Jam performed at a pro-Trump rally during the 2024 presidential campaign
