A 29-year-old man was fatally shot in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood early Tuesday morning, marking the city's 58th homicide of the year. Surveillance video captured the shooting, revealing the victim walking past the suspect before being gunned down.
Seattle police are investigating a deadly shooting in Seattle 's Capitol Hill neighborhood. It marks the 58th homicide in Seattle this year. Numerous police and Seattle Fire Department medics were dispatched to Broadway and E. Pike St. after reports of gunfire just before 3 a.m. Tuesday. Police arrived to find a man with gunshot wounds to his torso. A Seattle Fire Department spokesperson said crews tried to save the victim's life but were unsuccessful and the 29-year-old died at the scene.
Video from the scene showed at least nine evidence markers littering the street near the QFC. The crime scene was cordoned off with police tape and homicide detectives were present. Surveillance video provided to KOMO News by a nearby business captured the shooting, the moments prior and afterwards. In the video the suspected shooter can be seen hovering behind a telephone pole on E. Pike street, near the intersection with Broadway. He appears to be watching and waiting. At one point, the unsuspecting victim walks right past him from behind. He heads for the intersection, but before he gets there, he's shot multiple times from behind. It appears he had no idea what was coming. Just as he's shot and falls to the sidewalk another man is seen crossing the street, narrowly missing being shot himself, he runs for cover northbound up Broadway. Hours later, the intersection remained closed while investigators collected evidence. A clerk at the nearby Union 76 gas station told KOMO News that moments before the shooting, he saw a group of people gathered near the intersection. When the shots rang out, he ducked for cover and got down on the floor inside the store. He said he didn't know what happened after that because he was trying to stay safe after the gunfire. A production manager at Central Frame told KOMO News their store, also at the same intersection has had windows repeated shattered and often by gunfire
