A man in his 20s was rushed to Geelong University Hospital in a serious but stable condition after a suspected drug overdose on the first day of the Beyond The Valley music festival . Paramedics treated him at the festival site, held outside Geelong, about 4.40pm on Saturday. Festivalgoers at Beyond The Valley have access to the state's first trial of a mobile pill testing service, operating between 1pm and 7pm throughout the festival. Test results are returned within 30 minutes.
The service follows recent laws in Victoria which provide dedicated support for pill testing. If high-risk substances are detected, pill testers will work with festival management to alert attendees. Volunteers from DanceWize, a peer-based harm reduction service, have been on hand to assist festivalgoers
