The shooting happened near the Santa Fe Depot at about 8:50 p.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, which is investigating the shooting under a county-wide memorandum that prevents law enforcement agencies from investigating incidents involving their own officers.San Diego police officers were first called to the area about a block away for a report of a battery when they heard gunshots ring out, the sheriff's department said.
