Investigators did not say why police were pursuing the man.
The officers were chasing the man, who was not identified, on foot in connection with an unspecified criminal investigation, the office said. During the pursuit the man collapsed on an embankment along the west side of Route 280 near mile marker 12.8.No other details were released by the office.
State law requires the Attorney General’s Office to investigate the death of a person who dies during an encounter with police. The actions of the officers will be reviewed and the findings will be presented to a grand jury to determine if the evidence supports the return of an indictment against the officers involved.
