On Saturday, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD) responded to an incident involving a motorist trying to pass a road closure in the Latimer community.

LATIMER , Miss. — On Saturday, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded to an incident involving a motorist trying to pass a road closure in the Latimer community.Officials with JCSD said motorist Tommy Broadnax , 83, became agitated after being advised that the road was closed.

According to reports, Broadnax refused to comply with lawful orders given by first responders. Officials said a U.S. Forestry firefighter attempted to stop him and to reiterate that the roadway was closed. JCSD said Broadnax failed to adhere to these instructions and struck the firefighter with his vehicle, knocking her to the ground, before continuing down the roadway. JCSD said Broadnax was taken into custody without further incident. He has been charged with simple assault on a firefighter, which is a felony under Mississippi law.
