Man arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting other man, burning body [Breaking]

A 41-year-old man was arrested Friday on suspicion of fatally shooting another man during an argument in San Diego and then disposing of his body in a National City fire, police said Saturday.

The body of 55-year-old Jaime Barba was discovered by National City firefighters as they doused a flaming pile of trash in the area of Harbison Avenue and East 16th Street on Oct. 5, San Diego police Lt. Steve Shebloski said. Barba was found on the ground among the debris. An autopsy later revealed that Barba suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, Shebloski said.Investigators determined that Barba was fatally shot during a fight in a building on Dahlia Avenue near 16th Street in the San Diego community of Egger Highlands, the homicide lieutenant said.

Detectives identified Juan Carlos Acosta-Sanchez as a suspect in the killing. After the shooting, Acosta-Sanchez allegedly disposed of Barba’s body in National City, Shebloski said. Acosta-Sanchez was taken into custody without incident at a home on 13th Street in Imperial Beach, police said. He was booked into jail on suspicion of murder. Acosta-Sanchez is slated to be arraigned in San Diego Superior Court on Tuesday.
