A 26-year-old man was arrested for the murder of a 48-year-old man in the Alaska village of Circle. The victim had been living with the suspect in the weeks leading up to the shooting.
A 26-year-old man was arrested last week in the shooting death of a 48-year-old man who had been living with him in the Yukon River village of Circle. James Gelvin was pronounced dead at the cabin where the shooting occurred on Jan. 2, according to Alaska State Troopers. Troopers arrested Boyle after traveling to Circle, which is about 160 miles northeast of Fairbanks on the south bank of the Yukon River.
Boyle’s family members told troopers that Gelvin had been acting erratically the day of the shooting and they warned Boyle not to let Gelvin into the cabin, according to a sworn affidavit filed by troopers investigator Matthew Iverson with murder charges. One relative said Gelvin had been living in the cabin for about three weeks, and another told troopers Gelvin made threats several hours before the shooting occurred, it said. Boyle chose not to make a statement to troopers, they said. He remained in custody at Fairbanks Correctional Center as of Monday. A judge set his bail at $500,000 cash performance bond and a 10% cash appearance bond of $250,000
