Following the delivery of the 2023 state of the nation address , I found myself asking whether it is true that South Africa is simply a bad place to live in.
The ANC has always been, and continues to be, a learning organisation whose growth is founded on lessons learnt from both its mistakes and achievements. The current energy crisis being a case in point, where admission of bad choices is being replaced with solutions that seek to not just fix the immediate, but are primarily offering sustainable solutions which will ensure that the country never again finds itself in similar difficulties.
Against an increased pass rate of 80% in 2022, compared with 76% in 2021, R800 million will be provided by the National Skills Fund in 2023 to develop skills in the digital and technology sector through an innovative model that links payment for training to employment outcomes Other interesting data include about 1 000 black industrialists who participate in the Black Industrialist Scheme and infrastructure projects worth R232 billion that were under construction by January 2023, with about R4 billion worth completed in the same period.
Compared with its apartheid past, today’s South Africa is alive with possibilities. Access to universal basic services has drastically increased. South Africa is more habitable and quality of life has improved under the ANC government. The country is among the top three nations on the continent when it comes to descriptive representation of women in political decision-making.
