Furiosa lacks one Mad Max: Fury Road element.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT From a storytelling standpoint, Furiosa seems to be the perfect addition to the Mad Max movie franchise, but it has one major disadvantage compared to Mad Max: Fury Road. Serving as the fourth installment of the Mad Max movie franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road made waves with its slam-bang action scenes and white-knuckling post-apocalyptic drama.

Owing to this, even though it incurred losses after its release, it garnered enough popularity to grow into other storytelling avenues. One of the avenues is a spin-off movie, Furiosa, set to release in 2024. With Anya-Taylor Joy as its lead, Furiosa already seems to be an exciting prospect that could help the franchise further elevate its quality and fame. However, Furiosa has one significant disadvantage compared to Mad Max: Fury Road that could potentially hold it down.

The credit for Mad Max: Fury Road's brilliant cinematography goes to John Seale, who reportedly came out of retirement to become a part of the movie. Unfortunately, John Seale is not the cinematographer for Mad Max's Furiosa spin-off. Since Simon Duggan of the 300: Rise of an Empire fame is replacing him in the spin-off movie, it is hard not to wonder if the spin-off movie will be as visually spectacular as Mad Max: Fury Road.

Furiosa Can Have Its Own Cinematic Style Simon Duggan may not be able to recreate John Seale's cinematic style, but he will bring his own expertise to the table, giving Furiosa its own identity in the franchise. Mad Max: Fury Road primarily gave audiences a glimpse into the titular character's perspective of his gritty world. It would not make sense for Furiosa to adopt a similar visual palette since it will explore the world from its own main character's eyes.

Duggan also has an impressive line of work that proves he can elevate the impact of the Mad Max franchise's action and drama. His masterful use of bright light work in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby and emotionally-stirring display of war in Hacksaw Ridge show that he can bring the visual depth and immersiveness that Furiosa needs.
