“I just want someone that America can trust. That’s it at the end of the day,” Mace told The Ingraham Angle. “If we make a promise to the country that we’re going to follow the law, we’re going to have a budget, we’re going to have spending bills to support that budget, that we follow through with it, and we do the job that we told Americans that we would do.”“At the end of the day, Americans just want someone who they can trust, someone who will stay true to their word,” she continued.
Mace was one of eight Republicans who joined with Democrats to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last week. She has been critical of McCarthy’s lack of movement"on women's issues and legislation." Over the weekend, Mace announced she will support Rep. Jim Jordan for the next speaker, saying: “He’s going to be a workhorse.”
When pressed on if she would support another motion to vacate should the next House speaker not measure up, Mace skirted the question by saying she has “great faith” in Jordan. In addition to Jordan, Rep. Steve Scalise is also running for the role of House speaker. “I’m going to support him for speaker,” Mace said of Jordan. “He’s one of the biggest supporters of Israel in Congress. And I believe that he is going to be a great leader, but I’ll support either Steve Scalise or Jim Jordan coming out of it.”Mace also pushed back against the criticism she and the others who voted to remove McCarthy from speaker received, questioning why there is “such a vacuum” of people lined up, ready and capable of assuming the speakership.
“Why is there such a vacuum of talent? Why is there only one person that people we think can do this? We should have multiple people in line that can take over the job," Mace said."And 75% of the country thought was ineffective as a speaker, so it was the right vote at the right time last week.”
