“I think his values, his work ethic, his ability to just run circles around everyone with regards to policy and pushing forward,” the South Carolina Republican told CBS’ “Face the Nation.”Ms. Mace, who was one of the eight Republicans who voted last week to oust then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, said she thinks electing a new speaker “can get done very quickly” and lawmakers need to be “swift with it.”
Mr. Jordan of Ohio and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana are the leading Republican candidates for House speaker. A vote on a new speaker is anticipated this week. Ms. Mace has said one reason she voted to oust Mr. McCarthy was his lack of legislation on women’s issues. She has advocated for moderation in limiting abortion.
“We have to be forward thinking and look to the future to bring the party together, bring the people together and let the American people know that we care and we’re going to work and fight hard for them,” she said.
