I’ve been writing about technology for two decades and am routinely struck by how the sector swings from startling innovation to persistent repetitiveness. My areas of specialty are wearable tech, cameras, home entertainment and mobile technology.
File this under news you might have missed: along with all this week’s announcements about new versions of theand MacBook Pro, Apple quietly slipped out a detail about the MacBook Air. From today, the amount of memory installed on the Air has just doubled—while the price has remained the same. This means that instead of 8GB of RAM on MacBook Air, it will come with 16GB, without the price going up.
I’ve long admired the MacBook Air as the everyman laptop, with stylish design and strong performance. Often, I’ve suggested that the Air is good enough to suit most people, saying there’s no need to splash out the extra money needed for the Pro models.
Why has Apple done this? Well, it’s likely the company would want to head off criticism that the MacBook Air doesn’t have the latest processor in it . Perhaps it also feels that to make the most of Apple Intelligence, more RAM will make everything run that bit smoother. One other detail: the new levels of RAM are available now, and unlike the new iMac, Mac mini and MacBook Pro, you won’t have to wait until Nov. 8 to get it.Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
