NSTbusiness: MalaysiaAirlines Bhd (MAB) is offering the voluntary unpaid leave programme to all its 13,000 employees, effective this month.

The national carrier said the programme was also applicable to its parent company, Malaysia Aviation Group and subsidiaries including MAB Kargo, MAB Engineering, Firefly and MASwings.

On March 9, MAB had announced a 10 per cent reduction of its senior management salary including their allowances, effective April. “Unfortunately, Covid-19 has hampered our growth momentum. We need to get ourselves united to combat this crisis. It has been nine weeks, the cashflow is not only affecting MAG but also the industry in totality,” he said via a video to MAG employees recently.“Hence, drastic actions need to be taken by all of us. I will reach out to all of you more in the next following days and weeks, what we need to do.

The novel coronavirus, Covid-19 outbreak has impacted MAB’s cashflow and operations including over 600 flights suspension and temporary travel restriction imposed by other countries.
