President Joe Biden recently nominated Becky Lutzko to become the interim U.S. attorney for northern Ohio.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Federal judges on Friday appointed Becky Lutzko as the interim U.S. attorney for northern Ohio.
The judges made the decision just days after President Joe Biden nominated her to become the leader of the office. The U.S. Senate must confirm her, a process that could take weeks.“As a career federal prosecutor, I am honored to be selected to lead our dedicated team as we continue working toward making the Northern District a safer and better place to live and carrying out the mission of the Department of Justice,” Lutzko said in a statement.
The position has been vacant since Justin Herdman left the office in January 2021 after Biden defeated then-President Donald Trump. Trump appointed Herdman to the job.Lutzko will oversee 166 employees with offices in Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown and Toledo. Lutzko has been a federal prosecutor here since 2005. She served as a prosecutor in the financial crimes division and as the deputy chief of the major fraud and corruption unit.
