Gov. Jeff Landry announced an executive order on Monday designed to reaffirm that voting in elections is only for U.S. citizens by including a disclaimer on forms from state agencies that provide voter registration applications, reminding applicants of that law forbidding noncitizens from registering to vote.

The disclaimer on the forms will say, “The Louisiana Constitution prohibits non-citizens from registering and voting. Therefore, it is illegal for non-citizens to register and vote in Louisiana.” Among the states recently pushing election integrity efforts, Texas and Virginia cleaned their voter rolls, ridding them of inactive and, in some cases, ineligible voters. Texasit had taken 1.1 million “ineligible” voters off its rolls, including more than 6,500 noncitizens who were on the rolls.that roughly 6,303 noncitizens were taken off the voter rolls in the Old Dominion after Gov. Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order to strengthen election systems ahead of November.
