A stretch of Loop 1604 near the I-10 interchange in San Antonio has become a hazard for drivers due to ongoing construction incidents. Multiple incidents have resulted in injuries to both drivers and construction workers. Recently, a partially demolished ramp wasn't properly barricaded, leading to several vehicles becoming stuck. TxDOT claims they addressed the issue and implemented safety measures, but some drivers express doubts about the adequacy of these precautions.

SAN ANTONIO - A stretch of Loop 1604 near the I-10 interchange continues to be a source of frustration and danger for drivers, as construction incidents have plagued the area.
“We got onto the highway, and my mom realized she needed to get off, so we took the first exit we saw,” McCartan said. “Only it wasn’t an exit—it was the remains of what had been an exit before it started being demolished, and it wasn’t blocked off.” According to an San Antonio Police Department report, six vehicles ended up stuck after taking what appeared to be an open exit. Police arrived and helped drivers return to the highway. TxDOT was contacted to close the gap.
At the time, TxDOT said it was working with Williams Brothers Construction to ensure safety protocols were followed. McCartan, however, believes not enough is being done. In that statement, they also remind the public to "Slow down. Follow the posted work zone speed limit and never drive faster than what is safe for road conditions."Watch out for road crews. Always follow instructions and be mindful of construction area road signs.Williams Brothers Construction has been involved in other incidents in the past. In 2016, worker Gerardo Lopez fell to his death while working on a ramp at Loop 410 and Highway 151.
