Some notes and takeaways from the Longhorns’ win over Iowa State.
Iowa State wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson is hit by Texas defensive back Jerrin Thompson after a catch during the second half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, in Austin, Texas. AUSTIN — Texas coach Steve Sarkisian had a hunch this week was going to be tough.
The Cyclones did indeed get after it Saturday afternoon. But Texas, despite some sloppy play and early missteps, didn’t crumble this time.to run their current winning streak to three games. And next week, they’ll travel up to Stillwater, Okla., to face No. 8 Oklahoma State in a game with significant Big 12 implications.
Ewers and receiver Casey Cain, who dropped what could have been a 40-plus yard touchdown, also seemed to be operating on different wavelengths. They were fully out of sync on a couple routes, leading to a few missed opportunities. Texas opened that ensuing drive with six straight runs, including back-to-back-to-back gains of 14, 14 and 16 yards. Even the pass Sarkisian mixed in went to Robinson for 13 yards.
