AROUND THE SHIELD — Jaxson Dart's first NFL regular-season start couldn't have gotten off to a better beginning.Perhaps that's an overreaction. But the Giants rookie completed his only two official pass attempts on his first drive of New York's Week 4 game against Los Angeles, drew a pass interference on another, and capped a nine-play, 75-yard drive with a 15-yard dart up the middle to give New York its first touchdown on the way to a 21-18 win over the Chargers.
The former Corner Canyon and Roy High quarterback completed 12-of-20 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for 54 yards on 10 carries that included the rushing touchdown to help the Giants to their first win of the 2025 season.No wonder Giants head coach Brian Daboll embraced the 22-year-old first-round draft pick from Kaysville after the game and whispered something amid the masses."Probably said, 'great F-ing win' — something like that," Daboll told the media in his postgame press conference.Dart got a lot of "firsts" out of the way in Sunday's contest.His first play was a handoff to former Arizona State star and fellow rookie Cam Skattebo for a five-yard gain. "I'm just grateful to have the guys around me that I had."He also gave credit to the Giants' other quarterbacks, particularly former starter Russell Wilson, for helping him go from Jaxson Dart to Jaxson Start."I know that this week probably wasn't the easiest thing," Dart said of Wilson, the 36-year-old veteran who completed his only pass attempt for eight yards. "But he handled it like a professional, and was a mentor for me. I have a ton of respect for me. That goes for Jameis as well, getting me prepared for this week."
