Rochester, N.Y. Mayors in New York state are urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to increase unrestricted state aid to cities and villages.

The New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials held a statewide tour Monday, March 18, 2024, stopping by the city of Rochester to push for more unrestricted state aid for city and village governments in NYS.

Rochester, N.Y. — Mayors in New York state are urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to increase unrestricted state aid to cities and villages.held a statewide tour Monday regarding the topic, making a stop at the City of Rochester. Rochester Mayor Malik Evans says the city relies on these state funds for public safety and essential services, but says the funding hasn't increased in 15 years.formula has shortchanged Rochester for many years," Evans explained. "We calculated that just Rochester alone, if we got our fair share, it would equal about $34 million. We could do a lot with that money that would support our city.
