The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the surge in the stages of load shedding has placed a financial burden on businesses in the city. ESKOM Loadshedding SME
The country was plunged into stage 6 loadshedding last week, before being eased to stages 4 and 5 this week.
The chamber’s Prasheen Maharaj says the power cuts have begun creating a safety and operational challenge for businesses. Maharaj says they are also losing customers, as they are left in the dark for hours, not being able to deliver services."As an organised business, we believed the impact of load shedding will differ between big and small businesses.
"However, the impact will definitely be more detrimental to small businesses. These businesses do not have adequate options and measures put in place to withstand the impact of load shedding." “The reality is that many SMMEs simply can't afford to source or altrnative energy solutions that is generators, inverters or UPS deviced to mitigate the effect of load shedding.”
