Edson Kapeye and the two-year-old were knocked by a car on Kenyon Howden Road in Montclair on Saturday.The Montclair resident was declared dead at the scene, while the child survived.
Kapeye's landlady and close friend, Rachel Janse van Rensburg, says she drove past the accident - not knowing it was her tenant. “He is a kind-hearted person who helps all, he’s helped most people in the community. He’s an amazing person, he never says no, he helps where he can. He didn’t even ask people for money and stuff. He wasn’t like a tenant to me, he was more like a son to me.”
Janse van Rensburg says the community is busy collecting donations and food parcels to help his wife and two children. “The wife, she doesn’t work, and he was the breadwinner at home. As I get stuff, I would get them as well.”
