Georgia faced a 3rd & 14 after two short plays on their next drive and gained 13-yards before being brought down just short of the 1st down marker. On their own 40-yard line where some might go for it, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart elected to send out his special teams unit and punt the ball back to the Tide. After quickly being stopped on offense, Alabama looked to punt the ball back to Georgia, but the punt was blocked and recovered by the Bulldogs, giving them good field position at the Alabama 21-yard line. Just four plays later, Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton found Roderick Robinson II wide open in the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown pass and the first score of the game.Facing a very crucial 3rd down after being stopped on their first two plays, Crimson Tide quarterback found Ryan Williams for a gain of 20-yards. The catch was Williams’ first in over two weeks after having zero vs. Auburn in the Iron Bowl. A few plays later, Simpson’s pass, thrown into tight coverage and slightly behind his target, was tipped and intercepted by the Georgia defense. The Bulldogs returned the INT into Alabama territory, but a facemask on the return brought it back to the other side of the 50.After the INT and a few offensive plays to get back into Crimson Tide territory, the Bulldogs faced a 4th & 1 at the Alabama 26-yard-line and converted the 4th down attempt after a Gunner Stockton QB sneak. A few plays later, Stockton found Dillon Bell in the back of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown pass, putting the Bulldogs up 14-0 over the Tide after being in possession of the ball for over 6:00 of the quarter. With the ball back in possession and desperately needing to get some offensive juices flowing, Simpson and his offense began their drive at their own 25-yard-line. However, the Tide were only able to run four offensive plays before having to punt the ball back to Georgia again. The two sides exchanged punts on their next two drives before the Bulldogs got the ball back with 3:47 remaining in the 1st half. After 6 plays to get near midfield, Georgia faced a 4th & 1 on their own 49-yard line. The Bulldogs sent their punt unit onto the field before quickly substituting their offense back onto the field, attempting to draw the Crimson Tide offside.
