The latest outbreak of the bacteria listeria has spread across 12 states through deli meats, killing two people and causing nearly 30 hospitalizations, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned on Friday, though no recalls have been issued yet.The 28 reported hospitalizations have been tied to cold-cuts sliced at deli counters, according to the CDC, which collected samples from people exhibiting symptoms between May 29 and July 5.

Two people died—one in Illinois and another in New Jersey—though the CDC admits the true number of infections is likely higher than 28 and have gone unreported.
