Las Vegas Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels believes that the best ability is availability. Durability and availability were two of the biggest reasons McDaniels and the Raiders signed linebacker Robert Spillane, as the veteran rarely misses games.
Spillane has put the work in to become a better all-around linebacker. Specifically, his pass defense has improved. This season, he is statistically one of the best linebackers in the league, allowing only a 50.2 percent passer rating when targeted. He's a connector. I think that's why he was voted as a captain so quickly.
Spillane's football knowledge and communication ability have helped the defense improve in many areas. His leadership and experience have been key factors in why the defense has taken a jump this season.
