After overnight showers, the weather cooperated, preventing the showcase from moving into the high school gymnasium.SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Shaker High School marching band made it to the national limelight Friday with a dazzling live performance on the NBC network’s TODAY Show.
It was a very early start for the final week of the regular season, but an opportunity they could not pass up, Clemens told reporter Dave Chudowsky with the local NBC affiliate WKYC-TV prior to going national with a live feed on Friday . And that’s the regular season -- after posting its first winning record in about a decade, the football team is already headed to the state playoffs.
That’s how fifth-year head coach Alex Nicholson felt about the band as well, saying “it’s great to see them in both the local and national spotlight.” And they start them young, with a “mandatory option” given to fifth graders to play in either the orchestra or the band.
