FILE: A view of the Upper McCloud River in Shasta Trinity National Forest, Calif., during the summer of 2020.The fires, located in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest near the city of Big Bar, were caused by lightning and had a low rate of spread, officials said.

These fires include the Waterman Fire, located west of Hirz Bay up to the McCloud arm of Shasta Lake, the Stuart Fire, southwest of Stuart’s Fork Trailhead near Trinity Lake and the Rich Fire, east of Ridgeville near Trinity Lake, the agency said. The Waterman Fire and Stuart Fire were contained at 0.1 acres, and the Rich Fire was contained at 1.5 acres.

Forest service officials said aerial recon, a method of detecting and observing fire behavior using aircraft, will be in place at least once a day because of recent lightning activity. This comes during the beginning of California’s wildfire season, which typically runs from the start of summer until October or November,

The U.S. Forest Service did not respond to SFGATE’s request for additional information in time for publication.
