Forecasters say temperatures could reach nearly 100 on Thursday, with an even higher heat index.
Hot temperatures and high humidity later this week could cause life-threatening heat illnesses for some central Pennsylvanians, forecasters warned.
“Excessive heat can be life-threatening among at-risk populations, such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions,” forecasters said in the heat advisory. Those who do go outside should wear loose, lightweight clothing, forecasters said. Anyone who starts to show signs of heat exhaustion should immediately move to a cool, shaded location, according to the NWS. Forecasters said Thursday has a chance of showers, storms and gusty winds between about 3–8 p.m.
