New Jersey forecasters are already warning of soaring temperatures and humidity on Thursday and Friday that could make it feel like more than 100 degrees.

That’ll be just a taste of the scorching conditions expected on Thursday and Friday when temperatures will reach the 90s with a heat index climbing to 100 degrees along with winds that gust as high as 25 mph.Friday will be even warmer with temperatures of 100 possible for parts of the state with heat indexes nearing 110.

“It is not out of the question that portions of northeast New Jersey reach the century mark,” said the National Weather Service’s New York office, which covers Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties. “Some portions of northeast New Jersey could see heat index values close to 110.” While the chance of reaching 100 is low elsewhere, the heat index is still expected to be in the 100 to 105 range, the weather service said in its morning forecast discussion.

There will be a little relief along much of the Jersey Shore, where temps should top out in the upper 80s both days, though the humidity will make it feel warmer.
