A person convicted of voter fraud that he or she never intended is forced to give up their freedom? Will we next be cutting off the hand of someone who accidentally walks out of a store with an item for which she forgot to pay? While state Sen. Nathan Johnson nails it with his quote that, “There’s no hint of fraud anywhere presently,” a more succinct description of the problem can be found in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals opinion finding that Texas’ previous strict photo ID law is racially discriminatory, and noted that there were “only two convictions for in-person voter impersonation fraud out of 20 million votes cast in the decade” before Texas passed its law.

The ad with the Native American with the tear running down his face has always moved me. I see a man, whose land was in large part stolen from his ancestors, in great pain over what has happened to his once beautiful land. We have polluted the water, the air and a lot of the soil and he cries for what once was.
