Readers comment on a column about what the Bible says about abortion and how the religious right feels about abortion.

Perhaps the religious right and their advocates in the Texas Legislature should spend less time studying the Bible and invest more effort in understanding the roots of American democracy.Reading the op-ed by Person and Kasten, I, also a rabbi, would take issue with several of the authors’ statements and what they infer.

I would like to point out that besides the religious right, there is another powerful religious group that needs no legislation to restrict women’s reproductive rights. That group is Catholic-affiliated hospitals. These hospitals make up about 1 in 7 hospital beds in the U.S. I use my Bible to help me make decisions where ethics and morality are salient when creating modern law. Other resources will also guide me in the creation of law as I work through my elected lawmakers.David Stephen Toback, DallasIt is always disappointing and disturbing to me that women are outraged over abortion rights. This column is especially that way as they identify also as women of faith.
