Re: “Board members decry YMCA sale — If the building is bought, the association won’t have a downtown location,” June 17 news story.While thumbing through the June 17 paper I was pleasantly surprised to see a photograph of a basketball game at the downtown YMCA. It brought back pleasant memories of hurrying from the office to enjoy strenuous exercise and camaraderie once or twice a week for about 35 years.

There is probably no other place in Dallas where such a diverse group could work together as teammates. But my joyful recollection was cut short by the news that the Y building has been sold to a developer with no plans for a replacement facility.This is a shame as the next generation will not be able to share the wonderful experiences I had. We need more, not fewer, places where Dallasites of all backgrounds can positively interact.

Especially disheartening is how they ignored the wishes of so many regarding the unthinkable horror of the massacre in Uvalde. It’s beyond the pale.
