Re: “A 30% national sales levy? Plan gaining steam would apply to most everything in lieu of yearly paycheck dent,” Monday news story. Todd Gilman’s story...
We would encourage every neighbor to plant a garden and get a couple of laying hens. We would all put up clotheslines and switch to cloth diapers. We would learn to cut each other’s hair and sew our own clothes. We could set up a mutual aid fund to help neighbors with unexpected expenses like school fees, doctor bills and medication.
But Monday morning I opened the paper to read on the front page about a 30% national sales levy. Wow! According to the story, almost every transaction would apply to this new tax! And it would be in addition to the local 8.25% sales tax we already pay. Branch is one of the good guys and has done a lot to get funding for public universities in Texas, and his call for continued strong support of the Texas Research Incentive Program, known by its acronym TRIP, makes sense.
