Re: “I used to be a pro-life gun owner — With each school shooting, that 9 mm became harder to justify,” by Destiny Herndon-De La Rosa, Sunday Opinion. I...

Two bills are lingering in the Texas House that need to be heard. House Bill 3 would require schools to have an armed presence at each campus, including teachers, which would be dangerous, and HB 2744, which is a commonsense bill that would raise the age to 21 to purchase a semi-automatic weapon.

In light of our governor’s intent to pardon a convicted murderer, I would go one step further. Our governor and many state legislators have created and even cheered a scenario in which good guys with guns are encouraged to seek out potentially violent situations and, should they end up shooting someone, being assured that they will be pardoned — an untrained, unlicensed state militia, with no accountability.

What’s the point of having a legal system if a governor can just throw out the verdict? Doesn’t sound much like a democracy to me. Sitting and past presidents should have the same treatment as any American and not be given special dispensation that falsely exonerates them by using laws they sometimes helped to enact. Using absurd presidential powers to cover up their inappropriate actions must not be allowed.
