The change from office complexes to housing in San Ramon comes with a cost, and that is the destruction of hundreds of mature trees.Letters: Water in Middle East should not be a military targetA drive down Camino Ramon from Norris Canyon Road used to be shaded by lines of redwoods and other tree species.

It is jarring to now observe enormous areas in which noisy machinery demolishes office buildings and takes all the lovely foliage with them. Along with more traffic, there will be less soothing shade in the summer. The developers will claim they will plant new landscaping once the buildings are completed, but it will take years for the graceful trees to grow back like they were before, if they ever do. The San Ramon officials who have OK’d these changes should consider the dismay of long-term residents at the destruction of our beautiful environment.Any billionaires with a shred of wisdom and ethics will support the proposed billionaire tax in California. Why? Because even after paying the 5% tax, someone with $1 billion in assets would still have $950 million — sufficient to continue living in opulent luxury — while contributing to democratic processes of using additional state revenues for needed services and enhancing the local economy. Those who oppose this tax demonstrate their true colors of mean-spiritedness and greed. Besides personally harassing the measure’s authors, the only argument they can offer against it is threatening to leave the state in droves. Well, so be it. Good riddance to the greedy ones. May they leave our beautiful state to those who value a more equitable use of resources toward benefitting all.Because pediatric cancers are less common than adult cancers, fewer companies invest in developing life-saving drugs due to the limited financial return. Sadly,In 2025, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network successfully advocated at the California Legislature to list childhood cancer research as a donation option on California State Tax Return forms. Donations must total at least $250,000 this tax season to reappear on future forms. Please consider donating to childhood cancer research on your 2025 California State Tax Return. Check the box to donate any portion of your refund. Cancer remains aleading cause of death for children under 20 years old. Your donation will give hope to many families.that broadcasters who air “fake news” must “correct course before their license renewals come up.” Just wondering, does that include Fox News and other right-wing media who have actually been successfully sued for billions for lying and slander?of the statements it checked on Fox News were either mostly or entirely false. Another 20% were only half true. Thanks for a well-written and balanced article on South Indian traditional vegetarian food. Mylapore is setting the latest trends in offering excellent vegetarian food with clever marketing and unique offers. I visit the nearby Fremont location often. I have been to the Pleasant Hill, Sunnyvale and San Jose locations as well. Hats off for listing 11other Indian restaurants in this coverage of Mylapore restaurants. Most of these serve non-vegetarian dishes as well, like the Chettinad Restaurant in Santa Clara. Chettinad cuisine is famous for its non-vegetarian dishes. By listing these restaurants, the article has acknowledged the diverse nature of Indian cuisine under one big umbrella. Indian cuisine consists of many regional and traditional cuisines. Given the diversity in culture, traditions, ethnic groups and religion, the author has done a wonderful job here in describing one of the Indian cuisines in detail while hinting that there are many others. One of my favorite aphorisms is “knowledge is power,” so I eagerly looked for the “how” as I read this article asserting that AI’s growth will destroy our planet. Climbing through the weeds , I find that the answer to “how” is: energy consumption. This is laughable because that is exactly what is happening now, except that we don’t have the label “AI” to frighten us. And yes, providing knowledge to all our people does require power, but I doubt that the energy demanded by our AI knowledge seekers will ever compete with that already demanded by our industries, and which, by the way, is increasing at an alarming rate, separately and independently of AI.East Bay site of restaurant that closed over crime woes lands buyerAsking Eric: My friends tell me I'm lucky.
