Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich recently slammed lawmakers for failing to address gun violence. Readers are overwhelmingly with him.Re: “Abbott says he is eager to pardon convicted GI,” Front Page, Monday:
Without even pretending to consider the evidence, Gov. Greg Abbott has said he will pardon a convicted murderer. The message is clear: kill a protester that I disagree with, and I’ve got your back. Mussolini would be proud.Re: “Popovich slams ‘cowardly’ lawmakers over gun laws,” Sports, Monday: Thank you to San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich for calling out Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton for their roles in loosening Texas gun laws.
Popovich also slammed “cowardly, selfish legislators” for failing to enact stricter gun laws in the wake of school massacres. He also mentioned that most of the public agrees to some good gun safety laws. Have Texas legislators become numb to shootings and to the pleas of parents to do something? Is greed for power and money winning the battle versus the lives and suffering of Texas schoolchildren and their families? Imagine the blood and the tears and the grief.Once again, we recognize the plain, old common sense and wisdom that Gregg Popovich exudes with passion on and off the court regarding topics that affect us all. He is a San Antonio treasure.
