We are proud, therefore, and also hopeful, but not so foolish to ignore the fact that now we must stop. Or, better, we must take a break. For a while. Outside of Italy, we have been accused of being sly — the same old story, Italians who do not respect the rules. But we must always bear in mind that the outbreak of an epidemic so threatening and viral is something new and terrifying, and we are ill-equipped to deal with panic.
