DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin made his first post on the social media platform X after he was sworn in to the position by President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Mullin takes the helm of DHS during a challenging time as it has been partially shut down since February 14 while lawmakers negotiate reforms for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. made his first post on the social media platform X after he was sworn in to the position by President Donald Trump on Tuesday. I look forward to standing shoulder to shoulder with the 260,000 outstanding DHS employees and their families to keep our nation safe. My first priority is to end the partisan fighting and reopen the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a matter of national security. Let’s get to work," Mullin wrote. Trump praised Mullin as a "great American patriot," saying he has "a lot of confidence in this gentleman." Mullin stepped in as agency head on Tuesday as it remains shut down. Congress remains in a stalemate over whether to fund the agency. When a potential agreement to fund the agency was brought up, Trump said that it is, “sometimes awfully hard to get votes when you have Democrats that don't want to have voter ID," in reference to the SAVE America Act. Kristi Noem, who was fired from the agency, responded to Mullin's confirmation and thanked Trump for entrusting her to lead the department, "leading the fight to Make America Safe Again." "In one year, the patriots at DHS delivered the MOST secure border in American history, 3 million illegal aliens have left the U.S., located 145,000 unaccompanied children, delivered disaster relief at a 100% faster rate, ushered in the golden age of travel, saved the American taxpayer $13 billion, and revitalized the U.S. Coast Guard," Noem wrote on X.Mullin was confirmed to the position in a 54-45 vote with two senators, Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., and Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., voting in favor. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., voted against Mullin's confirmation. Paul clashed with Mullin during the confirmation hearing.
