Voters turned out to elect a new mayor, a city council member and to decide on Measure T, a one-cent sales tax for 10 years
Early election results Tuesday showed Lemon Grove residents supporting a sales tax increase and the mayor possibly losing her seat.
This year’s election could also see a new majority on the Lemon Grove City Council, where meetings in the past few years have beenIn the City Council race, challenger Jessyka Heredia had a slight lead over Councilmember George Gastil, with Sitivi “Steve” Faiai in third and Seth Smith in fourth. LeBaron’s council seat expires this term, and a loss will mean she is off the council. Snow still has two years on her council seat and will remain on the council if unsuccessful in her bid as mayor. If successful, her council seat will be filled through an appointment or a special election.
Meetings with the current council often have been contentious, with LeBaron often critical of Vasquez and other council members accusing LeBaron of being disruptive. The council at one pointvote against LeBaron because of her behavior on the council, while LeBaron has said her focus is transparency and holding council members accountable.A homeless veteran was denied a housing voucher for being too sick. But he believes healing isn’t possible without housing.
