Actress Leah Remini is grieving the loss of her close friend and collaborator, Mike Rinder, who died on January 5th after a battle with esophageal cancer. Rinder was a prominent critic of the Church of Scientology, and he and Remini worked together on documentaries and a podcast exposing alleged abuses within the organization. Remini called Rinder her 'lifeline' and 'brother' and shared her profound sadness at his passing.

Rinder was raised in the Church of Scientology until he renounced the organization in 2007. He took part in HBO’s 2015 Going Clear documentary and teamed up with Remini in A&E’s Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. Remini said Rinder “stood by me through battles that felt insurmountable, giving me strength when I had none left.” As a result, she owes him a debt “I could never repay.”
While Remini promises she will have more to say about Rinder and his legacy, she hopes people will honor his memory by supporting his son Jack’s college fund.
