Researchers found that exposure to lead during childhood resulted in an estimated 151 million excess cases of psychiatric disorders over the last 75 years in the U.S.

The study, conducted by a team from Duke University, Florida State University, and the Medical University of South Carolina, also discovered that lead exposure lowered people's impulse control and made them more neurotic. The impact was most pronounced for individuals born between 1966 and 1986, with Generation Xers born between 1966 and 1970 experiencing the greatest mental health burden
