A leader in Jefferson County is working to ensure that teachers receive their pay twice a month.
) - Representative Ontario Tillman has pre-filed a bill aimed at improving the retention and recruitment of teachers across the state.
“You start school in August, work for roughly 2-3 weeks, and then need to work the entire month of September before you see your first paycheck. That means you can go close to two months without receiving any income,” Tillman explains. “I believe it would help position Alabama as a teaching destination, making it a more attractive state by providing better incentives. Any profession, be it doctors, lawyers, or others, starts with teachers. We need to ensure that we take care of teachers and everyone in schools who contribute to education,” Tillman states.
