Laura Dern is set to star as 'Miami Herald' journalist Julie K. Brown in an upcoming series based on her book about Jeffrey Epstein

A TV show about the investigation into late billionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein is reportedly in the works at Sony Pictures Television. Variety was first to break the news in March 2026, confirming that the series would be based on Miami Herald journalist Julie K.

Brown’s 2021 book Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story. Brown is known for reopening the sexual abuse case against Epstein in 2018, a decade after his initial 2008 Florida arrest. At the time, Epstein agreed to a plea deal after being arrested for child sex offenses. Brown started investigating Epstein in 2017, ultimately connecting with more than 80 of his alleged victims. Eight were willing to speak out, alleging that Epstein had assaulted them while they were underage. Epstein was arrested for a second time in July 2019 on sex trafficking charges. He died by suicide in August 2019 at age 66 while in custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City while awaiting trial. Bowen’s book, published two years after Epstein’s death, expands on her three-part Miami Herald series — and the upcoming show is set to follow suit.Variety’s March 2026 report confirmed that Laura Dern is set to appear as Brown in the upcoming miniseries. The actress has yet to speak out about the news. While other cast members have yet to be announced, the show is set to be executive produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick along with Dern and Brown. Eileen Myers will act as an executive producer and coshowrunner alongside Sharon Hoffman, who is adapting the book. The series is “an explosive account of an investigative reporter exposing the secret plea deal between Epstein and federal prosecutors,” according to Variety. “Drawing from Brown’s experience as a groundbreaking reporter for the Miami Herald, the book and the limited series follow her relentless years-long investigation that identified 80 victims, persuaded key survivors to go on the record, and led to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrests,” the description continued.Details about the series are being kept under wraps. The miniseries has yet to be linked to a network. Despite there being multiple documentaries about the topic, this will be the first scripted series about the Epstein scandal.
