Rylan T. Weiler, of Penn Township, fell off his kayak and drowned at about 8:17 a.m. Saturday in Hammond Lake in Tioga Township, according to the Tioga County Coroner’s Office.The Middlebury Township Volunteer Fire Dept. said they received reports Saturday morning about a missing kayaker who was possibly trapped underwater.
Fire officials said emergency responders from 10 agencies, including divers and drone pilots, searched for Weiler for about seven hours. Hammond Lake is about 640 acres. The Fish and Boat Commission told PennLive that Weiler was not wearing a life jacket at the time of his death. The commission is investigating the circumstances of his death.said he recently graduated from Oak Lane Mennonite School and worked as a builder. He is survived by his parents and three siblings.
