The word 'spring' carries connotation of things coming to life, sparking optimism and hope. The flower-blooming, temperature rising, Easter-dominated season is on the horizon, approaching faster than we can say 'spring is in the air'.

Primely-placed close to and within easy drives of Preston, Lancaster and the Fylde coast, Garstang wears its pride on its proverbial sleeve. A walk down High Street, the main road running through the town with characterful shops, independent businesses and stone-finish cottage terraces lining each side, is a shrine to Garstang's colourful history.

Her legacy lives on in the roots she planted through her years of dedication, with the golden yellow daffodils among the first to bloom. Garstang is the world's first Fair trade town, a fact it shouts about too, of course, in the form of an information board behind a bench in the garden.View gallery Time your visit and you can hear the comforting chimes of the clock as it echoes down the town's signature nooks and crannies, lanes and walkways.

A short walk from number 42 is Lancaster Canal, with a wide bend a popular spot for feeding ducks and starting a wander along the towpath to Millennium Green and beyond. Ducking under the low stone bridges and nosey-ing at the boats at Bridge House Marina, there's also the River Wyre weaving its way through the town, running parallel to the M6.
